This is a really ambitious project, Aditi. Tremendous effort to distill all the research it must've required into such a simple and fluid narration. Great stuff!
Absolutely loved reading this Aditi. Can't fathom the amount of efforts it must have taken, but this ended up being a really informative and a fun read.
I am always on the lookout for content which explores history and economics through a common lens - would it be possible for you to do a post on things you recommend reading/watching/podcasts you follow?
Hi Vansh thanks for taking the time to read it, please read the other two posts also and I would appreciate any feedback you have on them.
So lately (since a year) I have been obsessed with Dan Carlin podcasts, it covers history from various eras told through different viewpoints and it is fantastic! The storytelling is incredible! https://open.spotify.com/show/72qiPaoDRf8HkGKEChvG5q Doesnt cover money & economics unfortunately. I recommend getting started with Supernova of the East.
Otherwise currently I am reading Asian Godfathers by Joe Studwell- covers Southeast Asia and the rise of tycoons and political structures supporting the tycoons- more about money less about history- but an eye-opening book. Every page is something new to learn about.
For understanding India through economics- Highly recommend Vivek Kauls newsletter- Easynomics - the writing style and simple way of explaining through examples makes for an awesome reading experience- https://www.livemint.com/mint-top-newsletter/easynomics.html
I am also on the lookout for the intersection of history & money so if there are any recommendations you have please send them over!🥰
Aditi, incredible edition. So much research yet succinctly presented. Loved all the footnotes too! Studied this in detail in fashion history, so thank you for sharing the financial side of things!
I've been meaning to read it for the longest time but kept thinking this must be a long post with big words. Kudos to you for packing it all in such few, simple words for us laypersons to learn and enjoy. Thank you for putting in this hard work. I will get to the second instalment right away!
Thanks a ton for taking the time to read it! I would love to hear your thoughts on how to improve the clarity and impact of the article. Any feedback or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your kind words. It took forever to write it, but comments like this keep me going.

Recommend Price Wars by Rupert Russell- a slow read because the topics covered are hard. I also wrote an article influenced by the book- https://filteredkapi.substack.com/p/what-do-wars-and-food-prices-have
